18.6% Energy Cut on a Sidel Universal 34
A rebuilt heat profile fixed excess bottle expansion with 18 fewer lamps, +15% line efficiency, and 4.2 → 3.42 Wh per bottle.
- Equipment
- Sidel Universal 34
- Application
- Carbonated soft drink bottles
The Situation
A Sidel Universal 34 running a carbonated soft drink bottle was producing bottles with excess expansion.
Several process variables were contributing at once, so no single adjustment would bring the bottle back in line.
What Changed
D.E.L.L. PET rebuilt the heat profile. The new profile ran with 18 fewer lamps.
Start-up and running parameters were adjusted for the same bottle, so it behaved the same way at start-up as in steady production.
Measured Results
- Line efficiency
- +15%
- Energy per bottle
- 4.2 → 3.42 Wh (−18.6%)
- Lamps in use
- 18 fewer
- Scrap and labeler issues
- Reduced
The Takeaway
Excess expansion looked like one problem but had several causes. Working back from the heat profile fixed the bottle and lowered the energy cost of every bottle the line makes afterward.
